CD Review: The Brook Lee Catastrophe - "Mistakes Pt. 1"
Date: Friday, December 2nd, 2005
The Brook Lee Catastrophe "Mistakes Pt. 1" (Brook Lee Music) - With the lone exception of August Burning, no local artist crafts music close to the sound and style displayed by the Brook Lee Catastrophe on "Mistakes Pt. 1."
The 11-song disc features singer-songwriter Brook Lee and a small group of talented players (notably violinist Paul Mitchell, who also produced the disc) exploring a mix of authentic folk styles that draws comparisons with pioneers such as Van Morrison and Bob Dylan. But Lee clearly has a voice of his own, and songs such as "Expensive Thoughts," "Ring Beneath the Pillow" and "She's An Anchor" testify that sparse and well-arranged material can resonate as powerfully as rock's loudest proponents
